SMITE 2 is a third-person action MOBA where players control gods drawn from global mythologies in team-based matches. The game emphasizes direct control through movement and ability use rather than top-down perspectives, with combat focused on positioning, ability combos, and objective control across multiple maps. It supports cross-play and runs on PS5 with controller or keyboard and mouse input.
Gameplay
Matches revolve around selecting a god and building items to enhance stats such as Strength and Intelligence, which determine ability scaling and damage output. Gods deal either physical or magical damage but can draw power from either or both stats depending on their kit. Newer systems include Plating and Dampening to reduce incoming attack or ability damage, Echo for ability critical strikes, Tenacity to shorten crowd control effects, and Pathfinding for out-of-combat movement speed.
Relics function as activatable items with upgrade paths that allow up to four equipped in total while respecting active item limits. Aspects provide optional modifications to a god's abilities starting at account level five, sometimes shifting their preferred role. Jungle camps grant experience, gold, and buffs, while larger objectives deliver team-wide advantages. Moonlight phases periodically alter the Conquest map with additional objectives and visual changes. Beginners benefit from auto-build and auto-level options that handle item purchases and ability upgrades automatically until players reach higher account levels.
Game Modes
Conquest serves as the primary 5v5 mode on a three-lane map with surrounding jungle areas. Teams defend their base containing towers, Phoenixes, and a Titan while pushing lanes and securing jungle camps and major objectives such as the Fire Giant and Gold Fury. Ranked Conquest adds draft selection with bans for competitive play.
Arena delivers 5v5 action on an open battlefield where teams reduce an opposing ticket count through god and minion kills plus minion pushes into a portal. Joust offers 3v3 combat on a single lane with limited jungle elements and structures leading to a Titan. Assault restricts players to random gods in a 5v5 single-lane setup focused on pushing toward the enemy Titan. Duel provides 1v1 matches, and additional options include co-op versus AI versions of several modes plus custom lobbies.
Updates and Current State
The game remains in open beta with frequent patches that introduce new gods, balance changes, and map adjustments. Recent additions include new deities such as Nox along with associated Aspects and events that rotate rewards. Systems like relics and stats continue to receive refinements, and bot behavior improves over time. Cross-progression carries account unlocks across platforms including PS5.
Is It Worth Playing?
SMITE 2 suits players who enjoy third-person action combined with MOBA strategy and team coordination. The variety of modes supports different session lengths and skill focuses, from quick Arena fights to longer Conquest matches. Beginner tools lower the entry barrier while deeper systems reward practice in itemization, role selection, and objective timing. Active development keeps content fresh through regular god releases and adjustments, though the beta status means ongoing changes to mechanics and balance. Those seeking mythology-themed combat with direct control and multiplayer emphasis will find consistent updates and mode options that match that preference.
