Vital Shell 2 is a third-person mecha action game that blends action, RPG, and simulation elements on PC. Players control customizable mechs that combine mechanical power with mystical forces in battles against rival pilots, constructs, and larger threats.
Gameplay
The core loop centers on piloting these hybrid shells in direct combat. Movement and attacks feel responsive in the third-person view, with weapons that range from ranged magical cannons to close-range massive blades. Customization forms a key part of progression, letting players swap parts and equip different loadouts to suit preferred play styles. The simulation aspects appear in how the shells handle their dual nature of machinery and magic, influencing how abilities and weapons interact during fights.
Enemies include other shell pilots as well as golems and constructs powered by the same mystical technology. Larger encounters involve facing entities whose power has been integrated into the shells themselves. This setup encourages experimenting with builds that leverage both physical strikes and arcane effects.
Game Modes
Five campaign episodes provide the main single-player experience. Each episode involves progressing through encounters with varied opponents, building toward confrontations with the gods tied to the shell technology. The structure supports repeated playthroughs as players refine their shell setups across different episodes.
Arena battles shift focus to competitive and skill-testing matches. These include 1v1 encounters against AI in PVE and against other players in PVP. Local split-screen support allows two players to compete or cooperate on the same screen, while online options extend the matches to remote opponents. Remote Play Together further enables shared sessions without requiring multiple game copies for local-style play.
Customization and Shell Design
Shell customization goes beyond simple weapon swaps. Players select components that alter both appearance and function, creating distinct mechanical-mystical hybrids. Weapons integrate into these builds, with options that emphasize different combat ranges and effects. The system supports tailoring a shell to aggressive close-quarters approaches or more measured ranged strategies, fitting the RPG elements of character progression through equipment choices.
Is It Worth Playing?
Vital Shell 2 targets players who enjoy third-person mecha combat combined with deep customization and a mix of structured campaign content alongside arena-style matches. The five-episode campaign offers a narrative-driven single-player path, while the arena modes add replayability through both solo PVE challenges and PVP encounters with split-screen or online support. Those drawn to simulation-style tuning of hybrid magic-and-machine systems will find the shell-building loop central to the experience. As an upcoming title with no released version yet, its appeal rests on the confirmed features of varied enemy types, god-level bosses in the campaign, and flexible multiplayer options in the arenas. Fans of action-RPG hybrids in the mecha genre can follow its development for a focused combat experience once it launches.
