Trivia Mayhem is an indie casual trivia game built for PC that turns a standard question and answer session into a competitive event with real stakes among friends or against bots.
Gameplay
The core loop centers on answering questions while managing a score that others can challenge. Players face standard trivia rounds alongside four distinct twists that alter how points move around the table. In one twist everyone focuses on a single player who must answer correctly to protect their lead and earn extra points, but a miss opens the question to the rest of the group for a potential steal. Another option lets a player double their recent winnings on a tougher follow up question or play it safe. A third twist invites betting on whether a specific friend will succeed or fail on their turn. The fourth twist requires writing a plausible incorrect answer and then identifying the real one from a list of fakes submitted by others, rewarding both knowledge and deception. These elements can be toggled on or off and their frequency adjusted before a match begins.
Questions draw from a library spanning twenty seven topics that include science, history, games, television, books, and childhood favorites. Difficulty settings range from Everyday Trivia through Casual, Standard, and Hard, with adjustable question counts and timers to match the group size and pace.
Game Modes
Matches support up to eight players in online sessions where each participant needs their own copy of the game. Private lobbies allow Steam friends to join directly. Local play on a single computer accommodates two to four people sharing a keyboard, with bots ready to fill remaining seats. Solo sessions let one player practice against adjustable difficulty bots. Every session ends with a final scoreboard, podium placement, and spotlight on the winner to encourage another round.
Multiplayer Options and Customization
Groups can mix human players with bots in any combination that fits the chosen format. Topic selection offers the full library, a custom mix chosen by the host, or a Random Five option that picks subjects automatically. The same flexibility applies to which twists appear and how often they interrupt standard rounds. Interface and question text support English, Spanish from Spain, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, and Simplified Chinese.
A future update is planned to add Steam Workshop support for user created question banks, though that feature remains unavailable at launch.
Is It Worth Playing?
Trivia Mayhem suits groups that enjoy competitive trivia with added layers of strategy and bluffing rather than pure knowledge tests. The steal and betting mechanics reward paying attention to how others perform, while the fake answer round introduces a creative element that levels the field for participants who may not know every fact. Local and online options make it accessible for both in person gatherings and remote play, and bot support ensures matches remain viable even with smaller groups. Because the game is scheduled for release on November 6, 2026 and currently has no player reviews available, its long term appeal will depend on how well the twists maintain freshness across repeated sessions and whether the planned Workshop content expands the question pool effectively. Players who prefer straightforward trivia without the extra mechanics can disable the twists entirely for a more traditional experience.
