Super Durak is a strategy card game for PC that builds on the traditional Russian shedding game Durak with a set of eight special Supercards. The core experience remains a tense battle of attacks and defenses where players aim to empty their hands while forcing opponents to hold cards until the end. The last player left with cards loses, creating a structure that rewards careful timing and opportunistic plays rather than outright victory conditions.
Gameplay
Matches revolve around a shared deck and a designated trump suit that beats all other suits. Each player starts with six cards. The player holding the lowest trump opens the first attack by playing a card, and the defender to their left must respond with a higher card of the same suit or any trump. Additional cards of matching ranks can be thrown in by other players to increase pressure on the defender. If the defender beats every card in the attack, those cards go to the discard pile and the attack passes onward. If any card slips through, the defender collects the entire pile into their hand.
Super Durak introduces eight Supercards drawn from a separate red-backed deck. These cards allow a single rule-breaking action once per game. Bomb beats any attacking card except the trump Ace. Superbomb beats one card and immediately ends the current attack. Ricochet redirects the attack to the next player at any point during defense. Magnet steals the opponent's highest card. X-Ray reveals every card in opponents' hands. Radar locates the four highest trumps wherever they sit in the deck or hands. Overtime shuffles the discard pile back into the deck. Trump Dice changes the trump suit mid-fight. Players see these cards coming because of their distinct red backs, and hosts can choose which Supercards appear or disable them entirely for classic Durak rules.
Deck sizes range from 20 to 52 cards, and transfers can be toggled on for perevodnoy style or off for podkidnoy play. A step-by-step tutorial walks new players through the basics, while optional hints highlight legal moves during a turn. Win and loss records track performance across sessions for every participant.
Game Modes
Single-player sessions pit one human against one to three computer opponents, allowing practice with varying difficulty and Supercard combinations. Pass-and-play supports two players sharing one computer, with the device handed back and forth between turns. Online play accommodates up to four participants through lobby hosting or joining, with friends invited directly and empty seats filled by CPU players. Windows and Mac users compete together in the same sessions.
Rules customization applies across all modes. Hosts select deck size, transfer rules, and the exact mix of Supercards, which can be dealt into starting hands or shuffled into the main deck. These options let groups tailor each match to preferred complexity levels.
Customization Options
Beyond basic rules, players adjust the presence of individual Supercards before each game. The red-backed cards remain visible in opponents' hands even when mixed into play, adding a layer of anticipation. Traditional Durak without any Supercards stays available as a selectable option for purists. The interface supports both mouse and keyboard controls on a widescreen table layout that preserves the original hand-drawn art and animations from the game's earlier versions.
Is It Worth Playing?
Super Durak suits players who enjoy quick rounds of strategic card play with room for creative disruption through the Supercard system. The combination of familiar Durak mechanics and one-time rule breaks keeps sessions varied without overwhelming newcomers, thanks to the built-in tutorial and hints. Local pass-and-play works well for casual gatherings, while online lobbies support both competitive and relaxed matches with CPU fillers ensuring games fill reliably. Those who prefer pure classic rules can simply disable the extra cards. With support for English and Russian and cross-platform compatibility between Windows and Mac, the game offers accessible entry points for Durak fans seeking a desktop version with modern conveniences.
