Shear Debt is an indie casual single-player incremental game set on a PC where players inherit a struggling farm and an unruly flock of sheep. The core experience revolves around managing debt through repeated shearing sessions while gradually restoring the property and expanding operations. Grandma passes along the farm complete with overdue bills, basic scissors, and a growing herd that requires regular attention to generate income.
Gameplay
Players handle shifts in the shearing pen where wool flies as the flock expands over time. Basic tools start limited, but successful runs allow purchases of better shears or other equipment. Bills must be paid regularly, and each settlement alters the farm environment in noticeable ways. When funds fall short, Grey the wolf offers temporary loans in exchange for a portion of future earnings until repayment. The flock itself evolves with unusual members that assist the process, including rams that knock wool from others, Poppers that deliver explosive trims, and Bobbin the sheepdog that helps gather animals for efficient shearing.
Collected items such as rings, bracelets, and thimbles provide lasting bonuses across attempts. Bankruptcy resets the farm state but preserves these upgrades, while strong performances unlock additional tools, sheep breeds, and improvements for subsequent runs. The loop emphasizes balancing immediate tool upgrades against essential farm repairs and animal needs like bailing out Boris the ram.
Game Modes
The main campaign focuses on clearing a series of bills that culminate in a royal visit. Paying the final bill summons Her Majesty the Fleece, adorned with a crown, lace collar, and royal cloak, for a special shearing session. After the campaign concludes, ongoing farm management continues alongside Fair Challenges that introduce custom rule sets for varied play sessions.
Progression and Upgrades
Upgrades persist in meaningful ways even after setbacks. Permanent bonuses from collected accessories carry forward, encouraging repeated play to optimize runs. New breeds and tools become available based on peak performance, creating a sense of long-term growth within the incremental structure. The flock grows more diverse with each cycle, introducing stranger helpers that change how shearing sessions unfold.
Is It Worth Playing?
Shear Debt targets players who enjoy casual incremental experiences with light management elements and a whimsical theme. The single-player format suits those seeking relaxed sessions focused on steady progress rather than competitive or fast-paced action. With a planned release in Q4 2026 and features like Steam achievements and cloud support confirmed, the game offers a self-contained loop of debt repayment, farm restoration, and flock expansion. Those drawn to quirky animal mechanics and persistent upgrade systems may find the approach appealing once available, particularly if they appreciate games where bankruptcy serves as a reset rather than a failure. The absence of current player reviews reflects its unreleased status, so interest should center on the described mechanics matching personal preferences for casual indie titles.
