Thirty one years ago Thenchira Boat club raced its final season before disbanding. Its legendary boat, Spirit of the Backwaters laid locked in the old shed in ruins along with the club. A decision made one night on a whim leads to its revival.
Choose components with care. Weight, drag, durability matter on a race day. A cheap and light boat gets off the starting point quickly but is prone to slowing down when the crew is not in sync. Then build the boat by finishing your share of the woodworking.
Keep the books for the club, set aside funds for the boat, the people and other expenses in pots. Choose sponsorship deals with the local businesses and when the boat is ready, book dates to practice before the race season kicks off.
As the drummer, the crew row to the rhythm you set. Keep the beat steady and pace yourself strategically before the crew runs out of stamina.
