PROMOTED is a 2D pixel-art action adventure game for PC in which players navigate the decaying departments of the megacorporation Mictlan. The experience centers on exploration, precise melee combat, and an adaptive difficulty system that responds to individual performance.
Gameplay
The core loop involves traversing a fully interconnected map of corporate departments. Players scan local areas and sync data with central servers to reveal the full layout, uncovering hidden paths behind breakable walls and routes that require newly acquired tools. Terminals scattered throughout provide lore entries and bestiary information that gradually reveal events leading to the current state of the facility.
Combat relies on a melee toolkit built around punch combos, launchers, and vertical aerial strikes. Timing counters against enemy attacks allows players to reflect damage or stun foes. Secondary weapons expand options during fights, while equippable modules for the head, torso, arms, and legs add specialized abilities. These modules operate under an energy budget that limits simultaneous use and encourages careful loadout choices. Every enemy class tracks player actions, causing the environment to grow more demanding in areas of strength and more forgiving where performance lags.
Game Modes
PROMOTED is structured as a single-player action adventure. The campaign follows a linear story progression through the interconnected departments while allowing free exploration once tools are unlocked. No separate multiplayer or competitive modes are present.
Story and Setting
Players begin in a wrecked research and development department with no recollection of arrival. The objective is to locate Lieutenant Zeno while overcoming opposition from the lieutenant's other units. Progress uncovers layers of corporate corruption that extend beyond the initial location, framing the narrative around institutional decay and the personal drive for advancement within Mictlan.
Exploration and Progression
Each department forms part of a larger, linked world. Ability-gated paths open as new equipment is obtained, and secrets reward thorough searching. The adaptive monitoring system ensures that repeated playthroughs or different skill emphases alter encounter difficulty in specific zones. Module customization and secondary weapons further shape how players approach both combat and traversal challenges.
Is It Worth Playing?
PROMOTED targets players who enjoy deliberate 2D action adventures with interconnected maps, timing-based melee combat, and systems that react to individual performance. The single-player focus and emphasis on exploration and customization suit those seeking a self-contained experience rather than ongoing multiplayer content. As an upcoming title with no released version or user reviews available, its value will depend on how the adaptive mechanics and corporate setting resonate once it launches. Those drawn to pixel-art titles with strong emphasis on movement and counterplay may find the described systems appealing.
