One Last Shot! is a single-player RPG adventure game for PC that centers on a distinctive card-fusion system set against branching storylines. Players control one of three protagonists across chapter-based runs that blend combat, exploration, and narrative choices in a roguelite framework.
Gameplay
Combat revolves around Action Words that define core moves and Modifiers that alter their effects. Combining an Action Word with a Modifier during battle creates a new fused card with enhanced properties and additional abilities. For instance, pairing High-Power with Left Punch produces a higher-damage version of the punch, while Rising combined with Left Punch yields Rider Punch that generates a Flying Kick+ follow-up. The same Action Word can produce entirely different outcomes based on the chosen Modifier, encouraging experimentation across more than 200 designed cards. The first time a player discovers a specific fusion recipe, they may assign a custom name to the resulting card.
Outside of direct combat, players advance through a multi-branch chapter structure where missions determine objectives and combat outcomes shape success. Resources, relationships, and escalating threats appear at each stop. Progression occurs via combat rewards, upgrade events, equipment acquisition, and deck adjustments while facing stronger bosses. Three distinct protagonists drive separate storylines and maintain unique card pools: Zero-Nine follows a Tokusatsu arc that escalates from human-scale action to large-scale battles and a cinematic finale; Jackie Di explores Chinese Wuxia themes involving martial arts, sects, old grudges, and moral decisions; Chole Li centers on coming-of-age romance where personal relationships, growth, and regret propel the narrative. Player choices influence mission generation, character relationships, and overall story direction, leading to branching routes and multiple endings.
When combat is not the preferred approach, the game shifts to dialogue scenes framed as persuasion challenges. These short fusion puzzles use drama cards and must satisfy the Director's requirements within a limited number of turns, incorporating character-specific variations.
Game Modes
The core experience follows a chapter-based roguelite structure. Each chapter resets character status, refreshes the map and events, and incorporates timeline shifts from prior decisions. Players build and refine decks using rewards from combat, shops, side missions, equipment, and upgrades to adapt to the current run's demands. The structure supports repeated playthroughs through its procedural refresh of content and persistent unlocks of side stories, equipment, and character options as the main narrative advances.
Story and Progression
Story progression emphasizes player agency across the three protagonists' arcs. Choices extend beyond dialogue lines to affect resource management, alliances, and the generation of future missions. The chapter reset mechanic ensures each run feels distinct while cumulative unlocks encourage exploration of alternate routes and endings. Side content becomes available naturally as the central narrative unfolds, expanding available equipment and features without altering the fundamental loop of deck building and decision-making.
Is It Worth Playing?
One Last Shot! suits players who enjoy card-driven RPG systems with creative fusion mechanics and roguelite replayability. The emphasis on combining Action Words and Modifiers during combat offers depth for those who like experimenting with builds, while the chapter structure and branching narratives provide reasons to return for different protagonists and outcomes. The persuasion scenes add a non-combat layer that rewards quick thinking with drama cards. Availability is limited to PC, and the game's current state reflects an independent title focused on its core fusion and story systems rather than ongoing seasonal content. Those drawn to single-player adventures with strong mechanical variety and multiple paths will find the most value here.
