Learning Japanese or Chinese is hard enough. Now imagine having to do it while monsters are trying to get a piece of you.
Welcome to Kanji Unsealed, a single-player fantasy RPG where your vocabulary is your weapon. Instead of swinging a sword, you'll fight monsters by recognizing Japanese Kanji or Chinese Hanzi and coming up with words that contain them.
Fight with words, not swords
Every monster displays a character. Your job is to come up with a valid word containing that character and use it to attack.
Of course, the monsters aren't going to politely wait for you to finish thinking. They'll cast their own attacks, and you'll have to counter them with the right words before time runs out.
Japanese or Chinese? Why not both?
Choose between Japanese and Simplified Chinese, each with its own character curriculum and offline dictionary.
You can create separate profiles for each language, with independent progression. So if practicing thousands of Japanese characters isn't enough of a challenge, you can always add Chinese to the mix.
You're not fighting alone
As you progress, you'll meet and recruit Companions who can join you in battle. Bring up to two of them along on your expeditions and experiment with different party combinations.
Of course, your own vocabulary level is your main strength. You'll still have to do improve that part yourself. Sorry.
An Archive of everything you've learned (and forgotten)
The Character Archive keeps track of the characters you've discovered, their readings, and the words you've used throughout your adventures.
It's a good place to practice, experiment with vocabulary, and remind yourself that you did know that word yesterday.
One last thing: you'll need a keyboard
Combat is built around typing, so a physical keyboard is required. Controllers are not supported.
After all, it's rather difficult to fight monsters with vocabulary when you only have four face buttons.
