Explore a 3D reconstruction of a human breast cancer cell built from high-resolution electron microscopy data. This free-to-play casual simulation lets users walk on or inside the cell in VR to examine nanoparticle internalisation and trafficking. Virtual environments reveal cellular anatomy and processes up close.
Designed for SteamVR headsets like HTC Vive and Oculus Rift on PC, the experience comes from a collaboration between UNSW's 3D Visualisation Aesthetics Lab and the ARC Centre of Excellence in Bio-Nano Science and Technology. Users learn through direct exploration of the cell's interior. It suits those interested in scientific visualization and biology education.
Using data from high-resolution electron microscopy we have reconstructed a human breast cancer cell in 3D VR in order to better visualise mechanisms of nanoparticle internalisation and trafficking. These virtual environments allow users to walk on - or inside, a cancer cell, exploring and learning about cellular anatomy and processes.
