IRONWOUND is a single-player 2D run-and-gun action game developed for PC. Players take control of Vanguard-07 in a dark sci-fi setting where a colony has gone silent while its factories continue operating without human oversight. The core experience centers on aggressive combat against machines and biomechanical threats, supported by a metal-and-phonk soundtrack.
Gameplay
The gameplay loop revolves around fast-paced movement and weapon switching in hostile industrial environments. Players aim, fire, crouch, and dash to navigate threats while detonating explosive barrels and exploiting brief openings in enemy defenses. Seven primary weapons are available for selection during fights, including a flamethrower for area control, a minigun for sustained fire, a rail carbine for armor penetration, and an electric whip for close-range engagements. A rocket launcher serves as a heavy option for larger threats.
Implants provide customization that alters combat approach and unlocks additional capabilities as progress continues through the colony. Combat emphasizes positioning and timing against varied enemies such as shield-bearing troops, attack drones, and biomechanical creatures. Larger bosses introduce distinct patterns, requiring players to dodge lasers from the Architect, avoid the jaws of the Leviathan, and maintain distance from Moloch Prime.
Levels span rain-soaked industrial districts, burning foundries, underground mines, and a living bioforge. Specific sequences include combat aboard a moving armored train and a helicopter gunner section. Secrets and upgrade modules appear throughout, with mission ranks rewarding efficient play.
Game Modes
IRONWOUND operates exclusively as a single-player experience. The structure consists of 21 operations that form the main campaign path. These operations incorporate linear progression with opportunities for exploration and optional objectives tied to rank performance. No multiplayer components or additional modes are present.
Story and Setting
The narrative follows Vanguard-07 guided by dispatcher Mara Voss through a fallen colony overtaken by autonomous machines. The goal involves locating survivors and confronting the Architect while uncovering what sustains the facility. Environmental storytelling appears through the industrial zones and the persistent threat of machines that continue functioning independently.
Is It Worth Playing?
IRONWOUND suits players who enjoy precise 2D run-and-gun action with emphasis on weapon variety and boss encounters. The single-player campaign delivers focused combat across diverse industrial settings, supported by movement mechanics and customization options. Those seeking heavy emphasis on aggressive firefights and mechanical threats will find the core loop aligned with that preference. The game remains in pre-release state with a scheduled launch in November 2026, so availability depends on that timeline.
