Goninkan is an indie casual trick-taking card game for five players that originates from the Tsugaru region of Japan. In each round a trump suit called the yaku is selected, after which the holder of the Ace in that suit and the holder of the Joker become the two Insiders while the remaining three players form the Outsiders. The two sides then compete to capture picture cards consisting of Jacks, Queens, Kings, and Aces.
Gameplay
The core loop centers on ten tricks per round where players must follow suit when possible. When unable to follow suit a player may play a trump card to cut the trick, and playing the Joker is referred to as dancing. The Insiders decide who leads the first trick by calling either Koi or Iku. Picture cards are the sole scoring focus, and the number required to win a round varies from one deal to the next. A set continues for up to three rounds, with the team that captures more picture cards declared the winner of that set.
Significant swings remain possible through special outcomes such as Juroku, in which one side takes all sixteen picture cards, or Sukonku, in which the opposing side is left with none. These moments reward careful observation of opponents and timely use of trump cards. The two Insiders must cooperate closely even though they begin the round as separate holders of key cards, while the three Outsiders work to disrupt their coordination.

Standard Play lets a single player select CPU opponents of varying strength and proceed through matches at a comfortable pace under the normal rules. Time Attack pits the player against the strongest CPU opponent, Koharu, in a race to reach fifty points. Daily Challenge supplies three identical sets to every participant on a given date, creating a shared experience that resets daily. Score Attack requires completion of six full sets with the goal of posting the highest cumulative score.
