Free Lances: Blood for Profit is a strategy and simulation game where players lead a mercenary company through a civil war over a crown. Commanders move independently across a real-time map, and battles resolve automatically once forces reach their destinations.
Gameplay
The core loop centers on managing multiple commanders at the same time. Each commander travels the map on their own schedule while others continue their routes in separate tabs. Upon arrival at a location, the player sets up the initial deployment of troops. From that point the fight unfolds without further input, allowing attention to shift to planning the next moves or handling logistics elsewhere.
Contracts come from either faction in the ongoing conflict. Accepting work from one side or the other affects available opportunities and the overall state of the war. Resource management plays a direct role in keeping the company intact, as wages must be paid regularly or units begin to leave.
Game Modes
The primary experience revolves around the multi-commander map system. Players balance simultaneous operations by directing marches, choosing contract targets, and preparing deployments in advance. No separate named modes exist beyond this integrated approach to campaign progression and contract fulfillment.
Contract selection serves as the main decision point, letting players support either side of the war and shape which battles appear on the map. The real-time movement and tabbed battle resolution remain consistent across all activity.
Key Mechanics
Deployment planning happens before each engagement. The player positions available units, after which the battle runs to completion on its own. This structure supports overseeing several fronts without pausing the overall advance of the company.
Payment decisions directly influence retention. Regular wages keep soldiers loyal, while neglect leads to desertions that shrink available forces for future contracts. The system encourages steady income from completed work to sustain operations.
Is It Worth Playing?
Free Lances: Blood for Profit suits players who enjoy overseeing multiple real-time operations without constant micromanagement of individual fights. The combination of map movement, automatic battles, and contract choices creates a steady rhythm of planning and observation. Those interested in mercenary-themed strategy with an emphasis on logistics and multi-front coordination will find the systems align closely with that focus. The indie simulation approach keeps the scope narrow and deliberate, rewarding careful route planning and timely payments over rapid action.
