Forge & Forget is an indie simulation game centered on blacksmithing and weapon crafting. Players take on the role of a banished royal blacksmith who rebuilds a career through a hidden cave forge, serving a stream of demanding customers with precise, custom weapons.
Gameplay
The core loop revolves around heating metal on an anvil and shaping it with three specialized hammers. The lengthening hammer extends the blade to meet length requirements. The widening hammer spreads the material for broader, heavier designs. The precision hammer refines details such as the tang, edges, and tip. Every strike alters the voxel-based shape in real time on a custom engine grid, giving direct control over the final form.
After the anvil work, three grinding wheels finish the blade. The cutting wheel removes excess length. The notching wheel carves complex edges or corrects mistakes. The sharpening wheel hones one or both sides for the required edge quality. These steps ensure the weapon matches exact customer specifications for length, width, and edge profile.
Runes add another layer once basic forging is complete. An enchanted book contains runes unlocked region by region. Players study the book to match symbols to customer needs, then select three runes and reproduce their shapes on the blade surface. Accurate drawing determines whether the final weapon satisfies the full request and earns maximum payment.
Game Modes
The experience centers on a single-player progression system across five regions. Each new area introduces tougher customer orders, different metals with unique heating and cooling properties, and additional runes. Orders grow more complex as requirements combine metal type, dimensions, edge work, and rune placement into single jobs.
Customers arrive at night with specific blueprints and expectations. Meeting every demand requires careful material selection, precise hammering, accurate grinding, and correct rune inscription. Failure to satisfy all conditions reduces the reward and slows progress toward master blacksmith status. The talking raven companion provides guidance on the path from exile back to prominence through steady order completion.
Is It Worth Playing?
Forge & Forget suits players who enjoy deliberate crafting simulations and attention to mechanical detail. The voxel shaping system and rune drawing mechanic reward patience and observation rather than speed or reflexes. Progression through the five regions steadily increases challenge without introducing unrelated systems, keeping the focus on blacksmithing fundamentals.
Those seeking fast action or competitive elements will find the pace measured and solitary. The game delivers a consistent loop of receiving orders, executing precise steps, and refining technique across varied materials and symbols. Its strength lies in the tactile feedback of shaping metal and the satisfaction of matching increasingly intricate requests.
Overall, the title appeals to fans of crafting-focused indie simulations who appreciate hands-on control over every stage of production. The absence of extraneous features keeps the experience tight and centered on the forge itself.
