DEPLETION is a single-player sci-fi survival simulation that blends action, adventure, and horror elements on PC. Players take on the role of an explorer sent to a remote moon in a distant star system to extract scarce energy resources amid Earth's mineral shortages. The game emphasizes careful resource management, exploration of unknown terrain, and survival against environmental hazards in an isolated setting.
Gameplay
The core loop revolves around planning expeditions with strict limits on what can be carried. Heavy equipment must be loaded into a vehicle while personal inventory stays light, forcing players to decide priorities before each outing. Survey beacons scan the surrounding landscape to reveal details about the terrain, while drones investigate potential mining sites for valuable deposits. Power capsules activate machinery needed for extraction, and oxygen injectors maintain life support during extended operations. These systems create a tense rhythm of preparation, deployment, and careful execution where every decision affects mission success and long-term survival.
Psychological horror emerges through the isolation of the alien environment, disturbing surroundings, and the pressure of limited supplies. The simulation aspects require ongoing facility management alongside on-foot exploration, turning routine mining tasks into high-stakes efforts. Action elements appear during moments of direct interaction with equipment and hazards, while the adventure component unfolds through discovery of the moon's secrets.
Game Modes
DEPLETION offers a single-player experience focused on progressive missions and facility oversight. There are no separate multiplayer modes or competitive formats. The structure centers on repeated expeditions that build toward resource goals and narrative progression, with players returning to base to manage equipment and plan the next steps. This unified mode supports both short focused sessions and longer campaigns of sustained survival and extraction.
Exploration and Resource Systems
Mapping unknown areas begins with beacon deployment that provides terrain data for safer navigation. Drone surveys identify mining opportunities without immediate risk to the player character. Once sites are confirmed, power capsules enable machinery operation while oxygen management dictates how long operations can continue. The limited carry capacity adds another layer, requiring trips back to the vehicle or base for resupply. These interconnected systems reward methodical play and penalize poor preparation, aligning with the game's simulation roots.
Is It Worth Playing?
DEPLETION targets players who enjoy deliberate survival simulations with horror undertones and resource constraints. Its single-player focus delivers a consistent experience centered on exploration and extraction without distractions from other modes. With a release date still to be announced and no user reviews available yet, the game remains in development. Those drawn to indie titles that combine facility management, on-foot surveying, and atmospheric tension may find the described mechanics compelling once it launches. The emphasis on meaningful choices about equipment and oxygen creates a gameplay style suited to fans of thoughtful adventure simulations rather than fast-paced action.
