Deckbound is an action RPG with real-time card combat and deckbuilding elements, available on PC in early access as a free to play title. Gameplay
The core loop centers on real-time movement and combat inside dungeons while managing a four-card hand that refills over time. Players move, dodge, and position in active fights, then select a card to trigger a brief slow-motion window for aiming before normal speed resumes. Combinations matter: an oil flask card can set up a fireball for area damage, a freeze effect can immobilize groups for follow-up heavy strikes, or bleed effects on bosses can convert into health recovery. Cards function as permanent loot collected during runs. Successful returns add them to a growing collection that persists across expeditions, allowing players to build and refine 60-card decks in the town hub. Death means losing carried items, so decisions about pushing deeper or returning home shape each attempt. Relics add further variety by altering rules in specific ways during runs.
Four classes start with distinct resources and starter decks. The Knight emphasizes defensive and close-range options, the Ranger focuses on mobility and ranged attacks, the Mage handles elemental effects, and the Necromancer works with summons and life drain. Over 60 collectible cards span five rarities, with upgraded versions available through blacksmith work. Procedural dungeons include shops, shrines, secret rooms, and elite enemies, plus hidden sub-dungeons that lead to tougher challenges and better rewards. Multi-phase bosses such as the Bramble Queen, Morrowgrave the Lich, the Ashen Knight, and Vorthax the Demon Lord test different strategies across four main dungeons.
Game Modes
Single-player expeditions form the main experience, with runs through procedurally generated levels that can branch into smaller, deadlier sub-dungeons. A seeded daily expedition provides the same layout for all players each day, encouraging comparison of strategies and deck choices. Co-op supports two to four players online or via LAN, where each participant brings their own class, deck, and collection. Loot remains instanced per player, removing competition for drops. Between runs, the town hub offers merchants, a blacksmith for upgrades, a tailor, an archivist, and training grounds to prepare decks and test combinations.
Progression and Collection
Deckbuilding happens outside expeditions through the permanent collection. Players theory-craft loadouts that suit their preferred class and playstyle, then carry a subset into each run. Relics found during expeditions provide temporary or run-specific rule changes that encourage experimentation. The system rewards careful risk assessment, as deeper progress yields stronger cards and relics but increases the chance of losing everything carried on death.

Deckbound suits players who enjoy blending real-time action with deckbuilding decisions in a roguelike structure. The permanent collection and co-op features create ongoing reasons to return, while the daily expedition adds a shared challenge element.
