Crossroads: Forgotten Paths is a 2D turn-based indie RPG adventure set in a compact fantasy world. Players take on the role of the son of the local village witch and set out on a light-hearted journey that involves joining the Mages Guild, meeting the First Mage, interacting with residents, and venturing into the labyrinthian Undercroft.
Gameplay
The core loop centers on exploration across villages, towns, caves, and additional locations in a traditional 2D turn-based RPG format. Movement and encounters unfold through deliberate choices rather than real-time action, allowing time to plan routes and engage with the environment. The game world functions as a micro fantasy land that can be fully traversed in just a few minutes, yet it contains dense details that reward careful attention. Most of the experience arises from conversations and dealings with approachable locals rather than vast travel distances.
Quests form a central pillar, presenting a multitude of interesting and engaging tasks that tie into the dense lore. These objectives often involve gathering information, completing favors, or uncovering connections between characters and events. Combat occurs against bosses and enemy troops, with opportunities to venture into the Undercroft for additional challenges. Special moves become available as progression occurs, supporting strategic depth during fights.
Game Modes
The experience remains single-player focused throughout, emphasizing personal progression and story engagement without multiplayer elements. Exploration serves as the primary mode, blending open wandering with directed quest lines. Grinding takes place in micro-dungeons scattered within the Labyrinthian Undercroft, where repeated encounters yield experience points and loot in compact sessions. Boss encounters represent distinct challenges that test accumulated skills and levels. The structure supports steady advancement up to 35 levels, during which players unlock and refine special moves.
Exploration and Progression
Progression builds through a combination of quest completion, combat victories, and resource gathering in the micro-dungeons. Each level gained expands access to new abilities while the small scale of the world keeps the focus on meaningful interactions rather than lengthy treks. The Undercroft provides repeatable content for those seeking extra experience or items, creating a loop that mixes story advancement with optional grinding. Locals offer varied dialogue and quest hooks that reveal more about the setting and its inhabitants over time.
Is It Worth Playing?

The game delivers its content through direct exploration and combat without unnecessary complexity, making it a solid choice for fans of indie RPG adventures that prioritize story and character moments over expansive maps.
