CODE.BREACH is a cyberpunk metafiction visual novel developed for PC as an indie adventure title. Set in dystopian outer-city slums, the game places players in the role of a technician who joins mercenaries, gang members, and other characters on missions that carry lasting consequences. The narrative unfolds through extensive dialogue and decision points that shape the direction of events and lead to multiple possible endings.
Gameplay
Players advance the story by making choices during conversations and mission briefings that alter relationships and future opportunities. As a technician, the core loop involves using hacking skills to bypass security systems and decrypt protected code segments. These sequences integrate directly into the narrative, requiring careful attention to detail to unlock new paths or avoid setbacks. The experience spans 170,000 words across 19 chapters, allowing for deep exploration of character backstories and the broader world without relying on external media or generative tools.
Original artwork from freelance artists supports the visual presentation, while a dedicated soundtrack composed specifically for the project provides atmospheric accompaniment throughout the chapters. The design emphasizes player agency through branching outcomes rather than linear progression, rewarding repeated playthroughs with different results based on prior decisions.
Game Modes
The game operates as a single-player experience centered on story progression and interactive hacking challenges. No separate multiplayer or competitive modes exist. Instead, the structure revolves around sequential chapters where choices accumulate to influence the overall trajectory and final resolution. This format keeps the focus on narrative immersion and technical problem-solving within the cyberpunk setting.
Story and Setting
The narrative draws from a metafictional premise in which the player connects with an entity trapped inside another mind. This framework supports encounters with a diverse cast navigating survival and opportunity in rundown urban districts. Missions carry weight because decisions made early can shift alliances, open or close routes, and determine long-term survival odds for key figures. The 19-chapter length provides space for gradual revelation of the central conflict and the motivations driving each character.
