Canyon Torque is an action indie racing adventure game that blends high speed vehicle combat with survival mechanics in a zombie overrun canyon. Players build and customize cars before embarking on a 50 kilometer journey across ten regions, managing fuel, supplies, and defenses while plowing through hordes of the dead.
Gameplay
The core loop centers on outfitting a vehicle with visible upgrades that affect performance and appearance. Spiked bumpers, grinders, rams, roof turrets, and flamethrowers attach directly to the car and interact with the environment and enemies through detailed physics. Ragdolls of the undead fly on impact, armor dents under stress, and heavier builds push through crowds more effectively.
Travel takes players through ten regions including Saguaro Desert, Copper Creek, Sand Arches, Red Gullies, Needle Woods, Lunar Valley, Mountain Pines, Rainforest, Snowy Pass, and Volcanic Lands. Each stretch features ramps, mega ramps, nitro boosts, and a fuel gauge that demands attention. Live weather and a full day night cycle bring rain, snow, blizzards, thunderstorms, and volcanic ash, while random events such as rockslides, lava bombs, meteor showers, road trains, and stunt biplanes add variety to the road.
Survival extends beyond driving. Players stop at towns for fuel, trade, and jobs from notice boards. Hunting grounds provide food through scoped shots, followed by cooking over twenty recipes at camp. Rest requires pitching a tent and lighting a fire, after which night sieges demand defense with pistols, SMGs, or rifles until dawn breaks.
Game Modes
Expedition serves as the main road trip mode. Players cross the infested canyon, visit towns, set up camps, hunt for supplies, and endure night sieges while progressing through the ten regions before an endless return journey begins with celebratory fireworks, hot air balloons, and biplane squadrons.
Circuit mode hosts the Canyon Championship with three cups in Amateur, Intermediate, and Expert tiers. Ten circuits pit drivers against seven rivals in structured races that test handling and consistency.
Drag racing introduces four car head to head competition on straight strips. Eleven drag strips appear across the regions, ranging from quarter mile to half mile distances. Tournaments in Street, Legend, and Elite categories require precise launches, manual shifting, slipstreaming, and timed nitro use in slow motion sequences.
Launcher mode uses a giant spring to launch the vehicle into walls of the undead. Upgrades extend flight distance and reward experimentation with different builds.
Vehicles and Customization
Nine vehicles each carry independent upgrade progress and visual changes. Options include the Dune Rat prerunner 4x4, School Bus lifted 4x4 with dual rear wheels, Ranchera V8 wagon with caravan, Cometa RS 4x4 turbo rally tuner, Nomada lifted 4x4 cab over motorhome, Bastion MRAP armored truck that unfolds into a six wheeler, Pulga featherweight fiberglass buggy, Avispa mid engine turbo rally supermini, and Coloso war monster truck with 70 inch wheels.
Customization covers paint, liveries, rims, tires, body kits, accessories, engines, turbos, exhausts, armor, roof racks, and bumpers. Every change appears on the car, and some alter its fundamental shape or capabilities.
