Brick Fleet is a pixel-art space card roguelike that blends strategy, deck-building, and tactical combat on PC. Players command a fleet positioned on the battlefield with a front line and a flagship at the rear, using cards to dictate attacks after observing enemy formations.
Gameplay
The core loop revolves around reading enemy setups each round before committing cards from a hand of one to five. Formations determine firing patterns, such as crossing shots from paired ships, relayed lasers across multiple vessels, merged cannon blasts, missile swarms, or splitting giant beams. Success depends on matching or exceeding the enemy's line to reach their flagship; falling short limits damage to front-line targets only.
Armor plates peel away under sustained fire, and a destroyed flagship scatters bricks across the screen. Players can swap cards for better options or deploy tactic cards for added impact during critical turns. The retro aesthetic includes green-phosphor displays, pixel starfields, captain communications, and a space-jazz soundtrack that reinforces the 1980s cockpit vibe.
Game Modes
Quick Battle offers standalone fights lasting roughly five minutes for those seeking a single engagement without committing to a full run. The primary experience unfolds through roguelike voyages across a procedurally generated star chart divided into six regions, each with distinct rules like limited visibility of enemy strength or charged cards in every hand.
Exploration involves visiting shipyards to buy, repair, and customize vessels, capturing defeated enemy ships, and confronting named legendary warships. The campaign builds toward confronting a Warlord as the ultimate objective, with each voyage presenting fresh layouts and challenges.
Progression and Customization
Blank cards collected during runs can be inscribed as new tactics, enhanced formations, ship modules, or card refits. These choices feed into the Ship Brain for carryover strength in subsequent battles, encouraging adaptation based on available resources and encountered threats. Ten distinct formations provide varied attack styles that players combine creatively to overcome defenses.
Regional modifiers alter decision-making, such as fog that obscures exact firepower readings or persistent card effects, adding layers to fleet management without altering the fundamental card-play resolution.
Is It Worth Playing?
Brick Fleet suits players who enjoy deliberate card-based strategy with roguelike progression and visual feedback from pixel-art combat. The single-player focus emphasizes reading patterns and optimizing limited resources over extended sessions or repeated short matches. As an upcoming title with no released version yet, its appeal rests on the described mechanics of formation matching, modular upgrades, and varied regional rules that support replayability through different card combinations and fleet builds.
