AFK - Army For Keyboard is an idle RPG developed for PC that blends casual progression with a unique desktop interface. Players build and manage an army of heroes while the game runs minimized in the taskbar, allowing other applications to remain open. The core loop focuses on long-term army development, loot management through custom rules, and strategic decisions that unfold over time without constant input.
Gameplay
The game presents a desktop environment where battles occur in a narrow strip along the taskbar. Clicking the strip expands the action to fullscreen for direct viewing, while closing the window lets the army continue fighting independently. Nine heroes are available in total, with three active on the field at once. Equipment such as weapons, off-hands, and elements ties directly to specific classes, turning party composition into a deliberate choice rather than random selection.
Skill trees, rune allocations, and prestige nodes form readable builds that players can review and adjust. Loot arrives as a continuous stream rather than discrete events. Users set rules once for handling drops, such as prioritizing legendaries or routing runes to the cube for conversion, with the system automatically processing the rest. A decision queue limits exceptions to fifty items and keeps the inventory clear of routine decisions.
Ten rarity tiers range from Bit to Yotta. Items carry implicit lines, affixes, enhancement levels from +0 to +25 with downgrade risk on failure, sockets, and runes that hold three candidate stats. The final roll occurs at socket time. The cube allows conversion of runes into gems and back, with every enhancement displaying its exact success chance before commitment.
Game Modes
Progression spans five acts across four difficulties: Normal, Nightmare, Hell, and Torment. Each difficulty unlocks after completing the previous one. A stage map changes weekly, and an endless tower offers unlimited ascent. Timed Boss Rush events include a reward ladder and leaderboard tracking.
Asynchronous player-versus-player combat sends armies to an arena where the server runs a deterministic simulation matching the client engine. Results return as a replay for review, eliminating live lag or scheduling issues. Clans provide a headquarters for member management, contributions, a shared development tree, announcements, and applications, alongside chat channels, direct messages, and mentions.
Audio and Accessibility
Every sound effect and the background music generate in real time from waveform functions, so no audio files are included with the game. Separate volume sliders control effects and music independently. The full interface supports twelve languages: English, Turkish, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Polish, Russian, Japanese, Korean, and Simplified Chinese.
Is It Worth Playing?
This title suits players who enjoy idle RPG mechanics that continue without active supervision and who appreciate systems for automating loot and progression decisions. The taskbar integration and rule-based loot pipeline reduce micromanagement while preserving meaningful choices in builds and enhancements. Asynchronous PVP and clan features add social layers without requiring simultaneous play. The synthesized audio and broad language support further lower barriers for extended sessions. Those seeking a background-running experience with depth in army composition and long-term customization will find the systems align closely with that preference.
