Before the lightning
Before the lightning, Song Bao was 29 and had spent seven years as a cloud architect in Lion City.On a late-night family video call, his mother, father and auntie took turns asking the same question:
"So, are you seeing anyone?"
So he opened a dating app.
This time, Song Bao tells it himself
No storyteller. Every line is Song Bao in the first person: what he says out loud, and what he does not.Around 330 voiced lines, 23 animated shots, in the same school-textbook ink-wash style as the main game.
Three paths, all leading to "let it be"
- Dating posts: a finance professional who wants it settled by New Year, a sweet hometown girl who wants to see the world, an ENFJ with a wedding deadline, and a nurse who wants a flat, a car and a baby. Plus four matches who only ever text, including a "soulmate" who replies suspiciously fast.
- The swipe app: swipe right, match, chat for three weeks, then dinner at a Michelin restaurant. Then the bill arrives.
- An old colleague: "hi senior~". She is back. For a referral.
The condo ballot
Buying a home in Lion City is a subject of its own: two PRs cannot apply for a new public flat, a single PR cannot buy one at all, private property comes with extra stamp duty, and a car permit costs about a hundred thousand. At the end of the nurse's path is a condo launch. Pick three units, draw your ballot number, wait to be called, watch the flats you wanted go one by one, and decide: sign, or walk away.
